Heart-Based Givers Hear Principle-Centered Leader

Greg LinkOur first history-making live micro-fundraising call took place March 28, 2008 and we welcomed “mystery guestGreg Link, President of CoveyLink, as our debut interview.

At CoveyLink, they define leadership as producing results today in a way that inspires trust. Doing that consistently amplifies the speed with which you are able to work and influence in the future. Trusted people simply have greater influence!

It’s easy to see why Greg was the perfect choice for our first live call interview. He believes, as Alex and I do – if you’re going to be up to something, why not be up to something great?

Behind every great success story are those who lead from behind. Most of our audience didn’t know Greg had developed and led the Covey Leadership Center’s (now FranklinCovey) seminar business development to phenomenal success by negotiating profitable multi-million dollar business alliances and joint ventures.

He was also responsible for Covey’s international publishing success resulting in partnerships with over 30 publishers worldwide. And he spoke frankly about both the daring and humbling experiences through which he learned the true importance of taking 100% responsibility for marketing yourself.

That’s how he and Dr. Stephen Covey were able to make publishing history in Japan, with Greg leading the strategy that sold over one million copies of a foreign language translation non-fiction business book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in Japanese.

And he didn’t stop there either. He was instrumental in formulating and executing one of the largest international business satellite broadcasts with partners Lessons in Leadership and Fortune Magazine.

Book: The Speed of TrustNow Greg is working with Dr. Covey’s son, Stephen M. R. Covey, operating a boutique training and consultancy firm spreading the message of the younger Covey’s new book, The Speed of Trust, which (coincidently) happened to be featured in my SMARTSTART Center classroom earlier this year and also made my recommended reading list for 2008 for our global virtual book club.

With SMARTSTART|Giving, Alex and I have worked hard to earn and sustain your trust. With your ongoing support we’ll be working together influencing the future. And not just for the entrepreneurs we’ll be supporting through Kiva.org with your donations, but also in the happiness and joy we know will come your way as you watch your hard-earned dollars at work changing peoples’ lives!

Thank you to all of you who were able to join us live! Whether or not you made a donation is not the point (although we do hope to inspire you to “give” at some time, when you decide it’s right for you). We’re just happy you were able to join us for Greg’s interview!

And don’t worry if you have to miss a live call — you can always catch us on the replays which we’ll be posting on this site. Hope to hear you on the next Final Friday call and remember to forward this blog post to your friends, colleagues and loved-ones who are also Givers.
