Report from the Front Line in Uganda
My niece has just returned to Uganda for a second season of working with a team of young people on local community projects. In her first report from the front lines she filled us in on what’s been done since she got there.
In Jinja they helped build a pig house as one of the income generation projects for a woman with AIDS. They also repaired the roof, fixed the door and patched up the mud hut for a woman named Ruth who is very ill.
So ill, last Friday night she planned to commit suicide but today is still alive, feeling a bit better and now believes she is one of the most blessed women on the planet! The team left for Soroti with every member high on the feeling that comes with making a significant in someone else’s life.
Our SMARTSTART|Giving team members have also had an impact in Uganda. With funds raised for Kiva.org during our March micro-fundraising call, we supported a group of women running a tailoring business there who wanted to expand operations.
They are called the Kabawo II(d) Group which includes Agnes, Rakia, Jennifer, Jane and Robinah. They are based in Nateete but with it being such a small world and all there is a chance my niece will cross paths with them in her travels.
I’ve taken the liberty of asking her to say “hello” from all of us and tell them we wish them the greatest success with their business! I’ll keep you posted.
