I learned about Smart Start Giving and Kiva from Jeff’s Birthday Bash call and then went to have a look around Kiva.org. And could not believe what I was seeing.

I first heard about micro-credit about 12 years ago when I attended a lecture by Dr Yunnis. He was in Australia for some reason at the time.

When I heard him explain the concept, my heart just overflowed with ??? admiration? - no probably more like love for what he was doing and the women he was lending to.

Anyway, when I went to Kiva the other day and discovered how easy it is to give a little and help so much I joined their org and gave money to one woman who was at the bottom of the list and so hadn’t received any money from anyone yet. She only needs $550.oo and if I could have afforded it I would have lent the lot to her.

We live in a world where it’s pretty easy to get credit - even if we can’t afford to pay it back.

But I invite everyone to just stop for a moment and imagine what it must be like for those people in developing countries, when someone BELIEVES IN THEM enough to lend them some money so they can follow their dream. There is nothing more encouraging to have people believe in us.

I can’t begin to tell you how emotional, and that’s a very inadequate word, but it’s the only one i can think of, so how emotionally affected I get every time I even think about the people around the world being helped wiith micro credit.

Congratulations Alex on what you’ve set up here.

    Hi Kashonia,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write! We appreciate hearing from you. I’m sure the woman who received your loan is very grateful for the opportunity to follow her dream and feels very blessed by your support. I know what you mean about getting emotional about it and the “inadequacy” of that word to describe the feeling.

    Take care,

    Linda M. Lopeke
